(I also considered Andrew Jackson, a Christian who was responsible for the Trail of Tears, which killed more non-Christian people than the 9/11 attacks, and yet gets to be on our $20 bill.)
(but, you know, iconographical brevity and all that)
Excuse me sir, may I have a moment to talk to you about Jesus?
It really just gets me when people forget about the fucking crusades.
nooooooooooooooooobody remembers the Spanish Inquisition!
Indian Boarding Schools, anyone?
Colonization of the Americas and the genocide of millions of Indigenous people in the name of “Manifest Destiny”?
….or what about the biggest forced migration in human history, the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade? The enslavement of millions of Africans was all done in the name of Christianity, sooooooooo…..
Oh HEY, what about all those radical Christian bombings that happen, lik ethe Oklahoma City bombing, pictured above, or the bombing of Planned Parenthood and Abortion Clinics?
No one remembers to include the OKC bombing omg
wtf is wrong with people.
Everything I know about the Crusades I learned from Disney’s Robin Hood.
As a Christian, can I point out that we’re people too? Not in the NOTICE MY EXISTENCE way, but in the DUDE WE’VE DONE BAD THINGS BUT WHAT ABOUT TODAY way. The original ideals of all those tragedies were Christian (spread the Word peeps), but there are sadists and other people that like to see/feel pain in all sorts of areas of life. Let’s get a rundown of all these horrors yalls mentioned;
A RUNDOWN OF A CHRISTIAN’S VIEWPOINT ON VARIOUS RADICALS-TO-THE-POINT-OF-BREAKING-FROM-THE-CHRISTIAN-BELIEF
KKK-These guys thought if you weren’t a WASP, you weren’t worthy, or some poop like that. (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) Even in grade-school Bible classes, the 3K were taught as The Guys That Went Way Way Way Too Far.
Jackson-Remember, this was still before Civil Rights. He was still under the impression that native Americans were “savages.” At least, it wouldn’t have been questioned if he did. Nowadays, if someone tried to pull a Trail of Tears, they’d be booted so fast!
The Crusades-Ah yes, a mission from the Crown to recover holy relics. Except then there was a whole lotta intense warfare, because pSHAW WHO NEEDS ARCHEOLOGISTS WHEN YOU HAS AN ARMYY?! I…I can’t really think of much for this one aside from that it really wasn’t necessary. At all. But the king of England decided it was, so off go the troops.
The Inquisition-This is a prime example of doing the wrong things for what are THOUGHT to be the right reasons but really aren’t. Seriously…“ACCEPT THE LOVE OF YOUR LORD JESUS CHRIST OR I WILL SHOVE A RED-HOT POKER UP YOUR BUTT.” Yes, preach a message of peace while threatening to break the peace if they don’t do what you order them, THAT MAKES SENSE.
Indian Boarding Schools-Gotta say, I’m not quite sure what this is. Since it’s on the list, though, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t very pretty. Probably something with forced relocation or something. The Gospel message is hope for all people, not hope for some and poverty for everyone else.
Slave Trade-Most people were moral enough to not want to buy another person. The few who weren’t wound up marketing the blacks as less than people, and they sold many slaves. I’m not saying it was right. I’m telling it as it is, to the best of my knowledge. Thankfully, we’re finally shedding that delusion.
It’s late at night, I’m tired, and I think I missed Manifest Destiny. I’ll be back to this.
