Ok I have to do this cause I see people’s tags shitting on Archer for this…

Captain Archer is simply trying to make the Tellarites feel welcome by acting like a Tellarite! Archer knew that Tellarites are very open with their thoughts and feelings and don’t tend to hold back. They’re not a fan of all the fake pleasantries other species would give.

Tellarites also love arguments. Arguments are so popular that they’re pretty much a professional sport on Tellar! When welcoming a Tellarite on board your ship, don’t be surprised to find them nitpicking every last detail or just outright insulting the host if nothing can be found to nitpick. They just really want to get an argument going!

(Also not pictured is 5 seconds before where the Tellarite is insulting the Enterprise, Archer was simply returning the favour)

Definitely would have been rude if Archer had been polite to the Tellerites! 

I just thought it was hilarious out of context and fit my “Starfleet’s finest diplomat” series wonderfully because he really is being a fine diplomat here 😂

Tellerites love arguing because they feel that’s when people are being their most honest and you can trust what they’re saying. When you’re saying stuff in the heat of the moment you don’t have time to think up a lie.
